If you would like to draw or paint an image of your own dog, you can paint so with confidence from your own dog photo. Please see the “How to” videos on this website that will show you how to shoot a good photo of your own pet and how to transfer the photo to paper for painting. This month’s pet is Sara. Actually, she is called Princess Sara. She is an adorable miniature apricot poodle who loved having her portrait painted. Sara is the constant companion and joy of her master Don (also called, King Don by many of his friends). Sara is walked on the lake shore by Don’s wife, Gail who also tends to her every wish!
Known as one of the smartest breeds there are, poodles are highly trainable. They will, however be very hesitant to facing new situations, so trainers have to be patient. They are active, fun-loving dogs that require regular exercise and socialization to be at their best.
Poodles are great dogs for people with allergies as they do not shed but their hair mats easily and can become painful. Be prepared to make regular trips to the dog groomer and to brush out your poodle daily.
Toy Poodles, like Sara can live as happily in and apartments and are very popular for condo living. They can live a long and happy life to approximately 17 yrs. You can also find Miniature and Standard poodles if you have the room. Regardless of size they are a very elegant dog and always cheerful unless protecting the home front from strangers.
There are over fifty known examples of poodles mixed with other breeds. Cockapoo, Airdoodle, Bernedoodle, Bich-poo are just a few. Sometimes called, designer breeds, they have become very popular probably because of the hypoallergenic quality of the poodle. Remember though, your dog may inherit the shedding qualities of the other parent.
