This is a portrait of Avery, she  must have more heart than any other dog that I have met. She is the constant companion and protector of a little boy who requires major care due to health reasons. Although Avery was not trained as a service dog she fulfills the role dutifully and with love.

The intelligent, obedient and focus of German Shepherds have made them valuable as working dogs for police K-9 units as well as valuable service dogs. They do need to be around people and to be exercised regularly to keep their even temperament. They usually live from 9-13 years.
